H.O.L.L.A!’s Theory of Change represents a commitment to stand on past Black Liberation accomplishments, while struggling to finish the incomplete works of Black Liberation  and Healing as a practice of organizing, studying, & fighting The WAR.

Click here: We Came To Heal, A Documentary

“We Came to Heal” follows H.O.L.L.A!’s Healing Justice Movement over a three year period, capturing Healing Justice circles, the Healing Justice Summits and H.O.L.L.A!’ s human healing-centered praxis led by The Youth Organizing Collective (Y.O.C).  This film asks what's next for human and societal transformation? What else do we need to learn? Where else is healing required? Where must we continue to struggle for freedom? And how does your fear of vulnerability negate your own healing?

As you watch this film, consider healing as a journey towards an intentional practice of relationship transformation with those you love, care for, and whose spirit you share.

Four Political Theoretical Frameworks

Four (4) political (i.e., theoretical) frameworks ground this grassroots, spiritual and sociopolitical pedagogy of personal, communal and societal resurrection. They are: 1) The WAR , 2) African Sacred Science, 3)Grassroots Movement with a focus on The Black Liberation thru The Non Traditional Approach to Criminal & Social Justice Issues (NTA) & 4) Healing Justice (HJ). These theoretical frames place Afrikan epistemology, Black radical feminist traditions, and “Community Specific” praxis of healing and fighting against historical trauma at the center of Black Liberation.

Magic Sauce

Our Non Traditional Healing-Centered youth organizing programs and services are designed on 4 foundational Pillars, we call our Magic Sauce. They are:

holla-angela-davis.png

1. Afrikan/Indigenous framework & standpoints of Culture, Healing and Seeing the World.

2. Youth and Community development rooted in pedagogy of lessons learned from Grassroot Movement Building.

3. Intentional Pedagogy of Hope and Spirit that comes from the Legacy of our Elders and Ancestors

4.The Radical Healing Process or The Concept of Journeying for Individual Transformation and Collective Wellness.

At H.O.L.L.A! we lean on the wisdom of our elders (Greenhaven Think Tank, Bedford Hill, NuLeadership) Non Traditional or Community Specific method, which entails a critical framework for self, collective, and societal development. This methodology guides our Non Traditional approach to Healing-Centered praxis which involves fulfilling transformation on three levels simultaneously and integratively: Community, System and Individual (CSI).

Community Empowerment involves directing resources to targeted neighborhoods to achieve sustainable community development, reinvestment and self-determination in the areas of education, economic development, civic engagement and social services. It involves creating a pool of community stakeholders equipped, trained and adequately resourced to interface with system stakeholders and participate meaningfully and equitably in the decision making process.

System Accountability and Realignment is having a principled mechanism of oversight for quality control, data collection, performance, evaluation, feedback and community partnership. It is holding the system accountable, analyzing system behavior and forging system‐community partnerships for arriving at solutions and outcomes that expand and enable Community Development and Empowerment, and Individual Transformation.

Individual Transformation places the person, the human being, at the center of any policy, advocacy, relationship, injustice, practice, program and/or effort to heal and develop that results in expanded and sustainable life improving opportunities and affirmative support.

“Community Specific” The Personal is Political

Community Specific; Establishes the proposition that any institution which claims to serve Black and Latino communities must be controlled by these communities; that the failure of these communities to control their own institutions has resulted in the breakdown of those institutions, they no longer serve the best interest of the very same communities that they are/were intended to serve.

Community Specific says that the power in society is ultimately determined by the people's relationship to the State. The State is defined as the totality of institutions which facilitate governance and social control. Community specific means all initiatives are community based in that the needs of the community, defined by them, become the measure for social action and the basis for empowerment. Community Specific means, therefore, developing organizational and institutional structures necessary to achieve these goals.
